Standard Folding Carton Paperboard

High-quality paperboard allows a wide range of packaging for food and non-food markets. A variety of paperboards are available, each fulfilling distribution requirements and offering unique substrate functionality for the best retail result. Virgin and recycled paperboard alternatives are available.

Folding cartons are made from a variety of paperboard materials. Standard paperboard materials include Chipboard, Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS), and Clay Coated News Back (CCNB).

Chipboard
Chipboard is made from recycled materials pressed into paperboard. Chipboard comes in a variety of thicknesses and is often clay-coated (also known as white lined chipboard). It is often used for slip sheets and divider pads and separators and is a popular and smart substance for printing and die cutting into folding cartons.

Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS)
SBS is a premium grade of paperboard produced from bleached virgin wood pulp. SBS is used for greater package strength and when when brilliant color printing is required. A clay-based coating is applied to one or both sides creating a smooth white surface for vibrant color retail packaging.

Clay Coated News Back (CCNB)
CCNB is made from recycled newspapers. A smooth, printable white clay coating is applied to the top of the gray layered sheet. A lower-cost material, claycoat is used when package graphics are not as critical, and for folding cartons that do not require as much package strength.
